Putney Heath - Wild Cooking-Flower Hammering and Heartfelt Goodbyes

Another exciting week has passed in our little woodland and what a brilliant one it was! From wild cooking to flower hammering and sensory play to heartfelt goodbyes, our little explorers have been busy learning and creating.

We kicked off the week with some wild cooking! The children whipped up delicious oat bars using oats, honey, butter and just a hint of chocolate. It was a big hit at snack time and a wonderful way to support fine motor skills, as well as introduce the idea of healthy eating and balanced choices. Stirring, scooping and sharing - what more could we ask for?

Tuesday was all about the senses! The children explored touch with a variety of fabrics, tasted and smelled citrus fruits, spotted vibrant visual prompts around camp and made music with instruments as they learned about hearing. The pasta and rice-filled bottles were most definitely the fan favourite. It was a day full of discovery and giggles - truly a feast for the senses!

Our Little Forest Folk-ers showed amazing focus and teamwork midweek as they worked with real tools. On Wednesday, they used the bow saw to begin a special surprise for graduation (shhh - we won’t spoil it!). On Thursday, hammers came out for hapa zome, a beautiful Japanese-inspired art technique that involves pounding flowers to make stunning fabric prints. The patterns were incredible and the children were so proud of their creations!

Thursday was also buzzing with excitement as the Roarsome team joined us to film a day in the life of our forest nursery. They captured the magic and mayhem perfectly! We rounded out the week on a gentler note, welcoming new holiday camp friends and saying goodbye as they prepare to return home to China. The children showed such kindness and curiosity - it was a lovely moment of connection across cultures.
